What Are Cannabinoids?
To fully understand cannabinoids and how they work with our body, we first need to understand our own endocannabinoid system. This system is present in every mammal and is responsible for the communication that happens within our body for different functions. Our bodies are constantly adjusting to maintain a delicate balance (also known as homeostasis) and our endocannabinoid system is what helps us to do this.
Our bodies produce our own endocannabinoids that work directly with receptors in our brain and body. These help with basic functions like immune response, sleep, appetite, pain management and motor control. Sometimes, our bodies can be deficient in endocannabinoids, which can be an underlying cause for a lot of issues regarding chronic ailments.
Phytocannabinoids are similar to endocannabinoids, the main difference being that they are derived from plants (specifically, cannabis). When consumed, these work with our own endocannabinoid system. Our bodies naturally utilize and break these down just as it does with our own endocannabinoids.
We can use hemp-derived cannabinoids to balance our own endocannabinoid systems and help our bodies achieve homeostasis. Studies have shown the use of CBD and other cannabinoids can help with pain, insomnia, muscle spasms, inflammation, and a variety of other issues. Once we really step back and look at the way these cannabinoids work so easily with our bodies, its easy to see why many people choose to incorporate CBD and others into their daily regime.
